Bhutan – February 3rd/4th
Known as Losar, the Bhutanese New Year is based on the ancient Tibetan Bon religion calendar, which then subsequently influenced the Chinese New Year.  The term Losar is the Tibetan word for “new year.” Lo holds the semantic field “year, age”; sar holds the semantic field “new, fresh.” Losar is the most important holiday in Bhutan and Tibet. Losar is celebrated for 15 days, with main celebrations occurring on the first three days. On the first day of Losar, a beverage called changkol is made from chhaang (a Tibetan cousin of beer). The second day of Losar is known as King’s Losar (gyalpo losar). Losar is traditionally preceded by the five-day practice of Vajrakilaya, and often falls on the same day as the Chinese New Year (occasionally with one day or with one lunar month difference). Losar is also celebrated by the Yolmo and Sherpa tribes, although different regions in the country have their own respective new years.

*** Manitoba Moose to Welcome Marvel Comics Spiderman in ‘Family Day’ March 21 ***

On March 21st 2010, The Manitoba Moose will host ‘Family Day’ at MTS Centre. On the same time, the Moose will take on Grand Rapids Griffins in a matinee face-off on Sunday, March 21st – 2:00 PM.

In the earliest Moose home game this season fans will be treated to in-game entertainment fit for all ages. Fans will get a chance to meet the official Marvel Comics Spider Man who will be in attendance at the game to take pictures with fans. There will also be jugglers, face painters and other entertainers spread throughout the MTS Centre concourse for young fans.

Following the game, the entire Manitoba Moose squad will be available at the ‘Boston Pizza Autograph Alley’ in MTS Centre concourse to sign your Moose collectibles. This is the last time this season the entire squad will be on-hand for a full-team signing!

Stephen King wrote the Shining and it quickly became a masterpiece of horror. The book had many people sitting on the edge of their seats throughout the early seventies. This terror was amped up in the eighties with the release of the film.

The spring that the movie was released was a truly terrifying time for those who watched it. This reign of terror lasted throughout that summer. People loved the film so much that they repeated the horrifying lines just to scare each other. By years end the academy handed out an award to the classic flick.

The storyline involved a character named Jack Torrance, his spouse, and son. After succumbing to alcoholism he takes his family to live in a large, haunted Colorado hotel. There he will act as caretaker during the off season when there is nobody living in it. The job seems like a great way to get away, but they will soon realize the buildings horrifying past.

Danny, the couple’s child, is already aware that something is not quite right. He had visions of tragedies that had taken place years earlier. His special gift had warned him about the evil that was waiting for his family. After the group moves in those prophecies begin coming true.
