Released in two thousand six, the departed is one of the conventional mafia police war movies, but this one has a twist. The story is based on the rivalry between the Irish American mafias and the police and this time there are actually two agents who are busy in double crossing their organizations. One does it for the bad guys and the other for the good ones.

This story is a summary of betrayals and thrills all coming together under the umbrella of the traditional rivalry between the mafias and law enforcing agencies. Similar movie genre always seem to depict a cop integrating within the criminals to identify and capture their heads and bosses. In this case the twist is that the mafia prepares their lad to land in the midst of the law enforcers to spy for them.

Billy is a Massachusetts police graduate who plays his generic mafia ties to win trust and respect when he is inducted in the mafia as a double agent for the cops. His background and family cult relation makes him an easy amalgamation within the Irish American mafia and also helps in gaining reliability within the cult sectors. This helps him in knowing what is being planned and he accordingly tips off the police regarding them.

On the other hand Collin is the one who is the mafia guy within the police ranks and is doing the same work that Billy does; but for the criminals. He is as good as Billy and quickly becomes a looked forward to officer is the special investigation unit which helps him in tipping of the mafia of their any plans in sabotaging the crime activities. This character carries a heavy importance in making this flick a hot pick on the box office because most of the conventional mafia and police movies do not show such variance in double agent roles.

As the movie moves forward, both the mafia and the police identify the fact that they both have intruders within their ranks that are tipping off the opposite parties. At this point both Collin and Billy, have to prove their worth and originality to their organizations in order to stay clean. There is a definitive struggle to unveil the crook and in this process the movie lingers on with some suspense oozing action packed sequences. This is the time when the human sense of betrayal is seen dominant as both these agents are on a brink to unveil and turn in their fellow mates and colleagues they have been working with.

The last half of the movie is something worth looking forward too. Although it might not be on the most action filled thrillers but the intensity and depth of the drama is absolutely worth watching. In these scenes Billy and Collin move toward a head to head collision based on the Collins discovery that Billy is actually working for the cops and is about to turn the whole gang in.

The drop scenes show Billy asking Collin to leave the bad ways and opt in for the immunity and protection offered by the Police department. Collin would not give up so easily and hence finally, Billy dies at the hands of Collin during a physical fight scene.

The departed is a classic action and drama flick that focuses yet again on making truth, honesty, and good deeds as the final winner. There are a lot of moments within this movie that can make you grasp your breath due to the suspense and drama. All in all, it is one of the best flicks ever when we talk about two thousand six releases.
